Lance Rodgers, fine art painting and photography

Lance Rodgers, an award winning contemporary artist with a strong emphasis on painting and photography, resides and maintains a studio in St. Petersburg, Florida. He earned his art degree from Florida State University in 1977.

Since then, Rodgers has displayed his art in numerous galleries, museums and collections in the United States and abroad.

As Curator of Exhibitions at the Galleries at Salt Creek, St. Petersburg, Florida, Rodgers has mounted elegant, successful and at times, provocative exhibitions for the past fourteen years.

The paintings Rodgers create use realism as a vehicle to transport the viewer on a journey through his visual narratives. Some are introspections, some are larger, worldly observations often laced with humor and symbolism. All are thoughtful in subject, design and execution.

Rodgers' painted photographs explore the intimate and human, strength and fragility.

Originally all were done in the darkroom as black and white images that were then painted. Sadly, the craft of the darkroom is quickly fading and we are forced to embrace digital creativity more fully and faster than anticipated. Digital imagery does have many advantages that Rodgers has mastered while maintaining the soul of his art.

Artists often re-invent themselves. It is part of their job description.

These painted photographs are mounted on wood, painted and further manipulated, then heavily varnished. They are purposely not manipulated the same way twice. Each piece is different therefore they are not numbered.

Rodgers alone accomplishes all steps of these processes, photo-shoots, and computer work, painting and finishing.
